119. Monster Subjugation 1

Okaz: I changed demon to monster because in most of FUNA-senseis works, they are two separate beings. Also it seems Chikubi-senpai was one step ahead with the line spacing.

“Please let us handle a monster subjugation request!” (Captain-san)

“Eh?” (Mitsuha)

We are not in a world of swords and magic, and this isn’t an adventurer’s guild.

Also, I am not a guild master either.

“What in the world are you talking about, Captain-san … “ (Mitsuha)

This is in fact, 21st century Earth, and we are in an armed mercenary organization located within a certain country.

This is the last place a monster subjugation request would be needed.

“Back when we subjugated the dragons… two of our members weren’t able to participate because they overslept and now they are depressed and constantly sulking. If we don’t do something about it, they’ll remain like that for the rest of their lives!” (Captain-san)

Two and a half months after our mission throughout the various countries was over, I let Colette-chan take a vacation in her village, and myself, I returned to earth to take care of personal matters and meet up with the captain of [Wolf Fang].

Well, a few days after our first meeting, he approached me with his weird request.

After bidding our farewells, Colette-chan and I returned to [General Store Mitsuha] via transfer.

Once there, I unlocked the door and place an open sign and spent some time chatting with Colette-chan before customers start coming in.

“Say, are there a lot of monsters within our territory? I know there’s lots of orcs and ogres, I’m wondering if it might be good to thin them out…”

Right, it’s a matter of selecting the hunting ground…. Speaking of hunting ground, the sword of choice would be [Ex-Calibur]~!

(Note: It’s a word play. Hunting ground = Kariba. Ex-Calibur = Ekusu Kariba. Silly I know)

Ahem, anyway, a good hunting ground inside the territory huh…

“There’s none” (Colette)

Yeah, there’s none… tte, Eeeeeh!!!

“The Yamano territory is a small piece of land that borders the sea. The mountain and forest are small enough that even children can traverse them. While there are goblins, kobolds, and a few orcs, if you thin them out, it would negatively affect the hunters in that area.” (Colette)

“Eh….” (Mitsuha)

That’s right, I haven’t seen any reports on monsters causing damage inside the territory. It’s to the point where it has never really crossed my mind and I haven’t set up any countermeasures against them.

… But I guess that’s normal.

Without that worldview, you couldn’t survive in this world. The regular safety of Japan is nowhere to be found here. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and humans are just another breed…

“Okay then, I guess I will ask the Count … “ (Mitsuha)

“I heard that onee-sama is going to subjugate monsters!” (Sabine-chan)

“I can’t possibly take a princess on a dangerous adventure!” (Mitsuha)

“First thing first. We have to organize the party, right…” (Sabine-chan)

Sabine showed no sign of listening to me, and her escort uncle had a frantic look on his face.

And like that, Sabine-chan’s recklessness continues.

“First, Colette would be the [Front Vanguard]. Then I’ll be the [Rear Guard Wizard] … “ (Sabine-chan)

And Sabine-chan gave me a glance.

“Onee-sama would be, [One who goofs around]… “ (Sabine-chan)

I’m never goofing around!! Out of all three of us, It’s me who always works the most!!

Rather, the one who goofs around the most is you, Sabine-chan!!

No matter. There is no way the King would give his permission for this. How could a mere Viscount take the princess to another territory and partake in something as dangerous as monster hunting. She would need to have the king sign off on it, and that’s not up to me. So, since the King could never agree to such a thing, I am safe.

The count rubbed his brows in exasperation.

“What if something happened to Princess Sabine… Even if she only got a single scratch, do you know what would happen to me?” (Count Bozes)

The Count said so with a serious expression.

I can understand the Count, if things went wrong, punishment would end with just his life…

But it’s fine!! There’s no way something like that could happen… I think.

“Oh right, I have this letter from the King!” (Mitsuha)

“Wha….” (Count Bozes)

What I gave him was a letter written by the King which stated that no one would be held responsible unless the cause was intentional. Of course, this was made after Sabine-chan strongly requested it and used two points to force the King to write the letter…

I’ll have to ask about that point system next time.

No, wait!! What if I join the system and get taken advantage of?

Let’s just forget about this matter…

Thus, it was decided that the monster subjugation squad for Colette Village would be accompanied by an escort from the Count Bozes house.
